The Old No. 77 Hotel & Chandlery and Where Y’Art to Debut “Unveiled Part Two: Works of Leroy Miranda Jr.” on January 21

January 14, 2016 – NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Old No. 77 Hotel & Chandlery – one of USA Today’s 10Best new hotels of 2015 and Fodor’s top 25 new hotels of 2015 – and Where Y’Art – curators and champions of New Orleans art and artists – will debut their second collaborative exhibition, Unveiled Part Two: Works of Leroy Miranda Jr., on January 21, 2016 at the hotel in the Warehouse Arts District. The hotel show is an extension of a group show, Unveiled Part One, now on display at the Where Y’Art gallery on Royal Street in the Marigny. Both exhibitions explore what we choose to expose or conceal in relationship to our securities and insecurities and within the rituals of costuming and masking.

Unveiled Part Two: Works of Leroy Miranda Jr. presents a collection of 25 contemporary mixed media portraits on paper, panel and canvas that have been assembled using found objects, oil paint, ink, flash paint, oil pastels, dirt, collage, acrylic and dry pigment. Miranda, a self-taught artist born and raised in New Orleans, explores the themes of culture and identity in works that can be found in over a dozen private collections and the L.S.U. University Medical Center public collection. His experimental approach is fluid in nature, allowing the objects he chooses to form the line, shapes and figures on the page. The works are a visceral interpretation of the unknown and a message of self-discovery, not only for Miranda, but for the viewer, to see a part of their own story within his works.

In addition to experiencing the new installation at the hotel, travelers can book the Old No. 77 Hotel & Chandlery’s new Art of Travel package, which pairs an overnight stay with $100 credit for art from Where Y’Art, for rates starting at $227, plus tax. Art lovers who want an insider’s view and expert advice on expanding – or starting – their art collection also have the option to upgrade the Art of Travel package to include $250 in art credit and a live, personal consultation with the founders of Where Y’Art. Rates for the upgraded package start at $377, plus tax. The Art of Travel package is bookable now through the end of 2016 at www.old77hotel.com/offers.
