The Old No. 77 Hotel & Chandlery is just a few blocks from Royal Street in the Marigny - the street in New Orleans to gallery hop – but you don’t even have to leave the hotel to get your art on.
Stroll through the corridor behind our lobby and experience an extension of the latest exhibition on display at Where Y’Art – a Royal Street Gallery in the heart of the Marigny. We love Where Y’Art. We love their mission, their passion and the way they have created a community for artists and art lovers in New Orleans.
Currently on display at the hotel, Southern Abstraction, Part One tells a visual story using the language of shape, form, line and composition to explore the tradition of abstract art as it relates to contemporary New Orleans artists.
Beginning with pioneers of abstract art in Louisiana, like Ida Kohlmeyer & George Dunbar, Southern Abstraction is a two-part exhibition curated by Don Marshall, the executive director of The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and Where Y’Art’s first Neighborhood Curator of 2017. The exhibition features a robust collection of abstract works by 24 local artists creating in the Crescent City.
If you want to explore further, start your Royal Street excursion at Where Y’Art’s main gallery – we can give you directions. Or, visit them online where you can meet more than 100 local artists – from painters and sculptors to craftsman and jewelry designers – and discover their passions, learn their stories and buy their art.
In addition to experiencing the new installation at the hotel, travelers can book the Old No. 77 Hotel & Chandlery’s new Art of Travel package, which pairs an overnight stay with $100 credit for art from Where Y’Art. Art lovers who want an insider’s view and expert advice on expanding – or starting – their art collection also have the option to upgrade the Art of Travel package to include $250 in art credit and a live, personal consultation with the founders of Where Y’Art. The Art of Travel package can be booked here.
